Manganese Greensand Filter Sizing

Operation Conditions: 

• Ph must be within 6.6 and 8.8
• Well Pump water flow must be greater than the backwash rate in system specifications.

Removal per cubic feet

• 15 ppm of both ferric (oxidized) and ferrous (clear) iron
• 05 ppm of Hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg odor)
• 10 ppm of manganese

 System Capacity per cubic feet based on type of contaminant present in the application

• Iron Alone: 10,000 gallons of water containing 1 ppm iron/cu. ft
• Iron and  Manganese: 7,000 gallons of water containing 1/2 ppm iron and 1/2 ppm of manganese/ cu ft.
• Hydrogen Sulfide: 3,000 gallons of water containing 1 ppm hydrogen sulfide/cu. ft. 

Given that system operation conditions are met, please use the chart below to size your system. 

Iron Alone: 

• Iron present in the application
• Manganese has being tested and not detected
• Hydrogen Sulfide has being tested and not detected. No rotten egg odor is present in the application. 

• Iron and Manganese has being detected on the application.
• Either Iron or Manganese level is unknown.
• Hydrogen Sulfide has being tested and not detected. No rotten egg odor is present in the application. 

• Hydrogen Sulfide has being tested and detected or rotten egg odor is present in the application.
